Magnificent Namibia - February 28 to March 13, 2009
MARCH 9 - 12, 2009:
Random Sites Including the
Skeleton Coast, Solitaire and Windhoek
During our many hours in our Land Rover, we noted that the names of Namibian towns and sites blend
the country's
German, Afrikaans/Dutch and British colonial past with indigenous languages. We
also observed bizarre road signs,
an abandoned ship wreck, a huge seal colony, many bad roads, and other strange
things along the way.
Go to
Namibia_1 to see the !San Bushmen.
Namibia 2 to see
naked women and desert-adapted elephants.
Namibia 3 for Sossusvlei
and Namib-Naukluft Desert.

(Above L) Danger signs indicated many different road conditions:
extra curvy and/or
steep to (Above C) the road broken off. (Above R) As Carolyn
and Wendy examine
that the road actually dropped away due to a prior set of floods, we
thought that the

travel in the area! |

(Above L & R) The "town" of Solitaire mostly
consisted of broken cars, cactus, a general
store and a few human residents plus many
desert critters, e.g., beetles, squirrels, etc. |

Skeleton

we only saw one. |
(Above L to R) We visited the largest seal colony we'd ever seen:
thousands of seals
posing for the cameras, jockeying for the best rocks, swimming in
the breakers,
warming in the sun, and cuddling babies and youngsters. |
