Rick's 40th Reunion at M.I.T.
Though Rick has regularly attended his high school and business school reunions,
this was his 1st time for M.I.T. He went because 40 years
after graduating seems/is pretty significant. After registration on
Thurs., we attended M.I.T.'s 113 Night at the Pops, quite impressive
considering that the Boston Pops is celebrating its 125th anniversary this
summer. During the next 2 days, Rick (and I to a lesser
extent) attended lectures by MIT professors arranged specifically for Alumni
weekend. Late Saturday afternoon, Rick was 1 of 5
40-year alumni presenters talking about their "next chapters" in retirement or
2nd careers. During 2 evening parties, Rick was pleased
to be recognized by some of his peers for both his 2nd career with TechnoServe
and looking the least changed!!!

The alumni of the 40th Reunion (Above Far L) were welcomed by (Above
L) President Susan Hockfield, the 1st female and 1st Life Sciences
background MIT president. Though the main hallowed halls
(Above R and Far R) remain unchanged, today's students look
dramatically different and quite diverse vs. the mostly while
male class of 1970. |

(Above Far L) Whether in a suit or in tie-dyed t-shirt, the MIT
alumni look is...wait for it...unique (nerdy!). (Above L & R)
Rick talks to about 50
of his fellow alumni and their wives about his 2nd career in
international economic development. (Above Far R) From the balcony
of MIT's
Student Union (where our wedding pictures were taken on January 3,
1971), we viewed the unusual-at-the-time, geodesic Kresge
Auditorium,
next to which were tents set up for graduation and alumni
activities. |
